In 1964, Brooklyn Heights was the first area designated as a New York City Historic District. Like most of the developing city in the early years, SoHo (which stands for South of Houston Street – and by the way, it’s pronounced How-ston) started as a small village. Over time, the neighborhood went from the wealthiest, to the most industrial, to a slum called “Hell’s 100 acres.” Now it is back to trendy again. Day 2 – NYC History 101: Today finds you heading out once again with your expert tour guide for an 8-hour experience where you’ll discover Lower Manhattan’s most significant landmarks. Gratuity for the tour guide is not included.
You’re first stop is historical Battery Park where you will board a ferry for a scenic ride that will transport you to a time and place where millions of hopeful European immigrants arrived starry-eyed and ready to take on new lives in America.
Upon arrival you’ll proudly stand in the shadow of the majestic Lady Liberty, explore her story in the Statue of Liberty Museum and then board the ferry to Ellis Island where you’re sure to be overcome with emotion when you realize you very well could be following the footsteps of your ancestors.
